SILK CARE
H A N D L E W I T H L O V E
Violette silks are hand dyed in small batches using botanical ingredients and traditional techniques. Our collection of beautiful colours and prints is sustainably created with flowers, leaves, roots, bark and berries – without the use of synthetic dyes. Part of the unique nature of botanical dying is that colours may subtly shift over time. We encourage you to embrace this evolution as nature takes it’s course. It is, after all, what makes them so magical! It also means a little extra love and care is needed when looking after your Violette silks.
N°1
Gently hand wash your silk items individually in cool water, using a small amount of pH neutral detergent. Rinse. Do not machine wash, dry clean, soak, rub or wring. Wash no more than necessary.
WASH
N°2
Hang or lay your silk items flat to dry, indoors or in a shady spot away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry.
DRY
N°3
Iron when slightly damp on low heat for a smooth finish. Iron on the reverse side of the fabric where possible. Ensure your iron is clean. Do not use steam.
NOTE : DO NOT IRON VELVET or CRINKLE SILK

N°4
We recommend storing your silk items in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight. Botanical dyes are sensitive to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can result in fading.

N°5
Please be aware that botanically dyed items are pH sensitive and can be shifted by chemicals. Avoid direct contact with any products that may react with the natural dyes and discolour your silk.

FAQs
-
Our hand torn ribbons have softly frayed edges. This will naturally continue with use. Simply remove any fly away threads by gently pulling them away from the edge of the ribbon, taking care to prevent any tangles. If you prefer not to encourage fraying, we suggest you limit handling and washing.
-
We don’t encourage you to get your silks wet (other than when washing). Although we mordent our fabrics – a process which allows the botanical dyes to bond permanently with the fabric – small molecules may be left behind on the silk, especially when it comes to darker, more pigmented colours. If you do get your silks wet, avoid direct contact with other items.
-
You can press your silk ribbons with a hair straightener, however only if it is set to a cooler setting as high temperatures can damage the fabric. The recommended temperature for ironing silk is 148°C. Also ensure your straightening iron is cleaned thoroughly and free from any hair products.
-
We mordent our silks – a process which allows the botanical dyes to bond permanently with the fabric – to ensure colour fastness, however the botanical ingredients we use to dye our silks all have varying colour fast properties. Part of the unique nature of botanical dying is that colours may subtly shift over time. We encourage you to embrace this evolution as nature takes it’s course. It is, after all, what makes them so magical! To prolong the longevity of your silks, we recommend following our Silk Care guide.
